アンティークの黒い着物生地をベースにした刺繍ブローチ､刺繍のまわりはシルエットのように着物を残して仕上げました
踊る妖怪シリーズは”河鍋暁斎”の描いた膨大な下絵(画稿)の中から選んだ鳥獣戯画です
その中の3体の動物を刺繍で表現したものです
｢かまいたち｣はこの中の1体です

＞猫又と狸･鎌鼬を描いた躍動感あふれる作品
下絵とは思えない動物たち(妖怪)が踊る姿が描かれてたもの
近年この下絵の上部位は発見され､2匹の鼠が長い燈台(面灯り_つらあかり)で動物達を照らしている事がわかりました

about “Kama Itachi”*1
“Kama Itachi” is a Itachi Yo-kai.
Itachi is name of Japanese Weasel*2.
It is also famous as the name of a character “Uchiha Itachi*3” from a Japanese manga series NARUTO*4.
Once upon a time, at the end of the Edo era “Kyōsai”*5 made “Ukiyo-e”*6 depicting “Kama Itachi” as one of the Dancing Yo-kai trio.
Mazinger Embroidery Meister Mimiko*7 redesigned this Kamaitachi Ukiyo-e picture for embroidery.
What is “Kama Itachi” ?
“Kama Itachi” is a Japanese Yo-kai from the oral tradition of the Ko-shin-etsu region*8.
“Kama Itachi” , The name is a combination of the words “Kama” (sickle), and “Itachi” (weasel).
“Kama Itachi” is a trio Yo-kai, and appeares riding on whirlwind (dust devils, Tsumuji-kaze つむじ風*9).
And they have a roal eachi other.
The first one makes people fall with a mallet or rope.
The second one slashes people using their sickle-like front claws, delivering sharp, painless wounds.
The last one applies medicine to the cut wound.
After encountering “Kama Itachi”, people have sharp wounds, but the wounds don’t hurt.
So Kama-itachi can also refer to the strange events that this Yo-kai causes.
“Kama Itachi” made by Kawanabe Kyosai (late Edo period painter)
from “Choju-giga draft” (鳥獣戯画 画稿 猫又と狸 下絵*10 Kyosai’s drafts for Frolicking Animals Nekomata and Tanuki) by Kawanabe Kyōsai (Year of production unknown).
The original Ukiyo-e is a colored drafts.
Mimiko made this embroidery based on “Kawanabe Kyōsai”‘s version of “Kama Itachi”.
Dancing Yo-kai trio series
These dancing Yo-kai series are a series of Choju-giga*11 caricatures selected from among the vast number of sketches drawn by Kawanabe Kyōsai.
Mimiko embroidered three of Yo-kai from Kyosai’s Choju-giga.
This product is one of the three dancing Yo-kai trio.
They are dancing in a circle, and made an circle like folk dance.
We recommend getting all three, “Nekomata(ねこまた 猫又*12)” “Bake Tanuki(たぬき 狸*13)” “Kama Itachi(かまいたち 鎌鼬)”.
about Embroidery details of dancing “Kama Itachi”
The designs are embroidered with a little arrangement of colors and silhouettes.
Mimiko has expressed the detailed fur with embroidery and recreated the atmosphere of the line drawing as much as possible.
This is an embroidered Broach made using antique black kimono(着物 *14) fabric as the base.
Mimiko left the kimono fabric around the embroidery to create a shadow.
About the back finish
A safety pin and loop are sewn on.
You can attach this as a brooch with a safety pin.
And you can turn it into a “necklace” by passing a leather strap or chain through this loop.
The back is made of felt, so it can be arranged into obi clasps(帯留め*15), etc.
It is a specification that can be arranged in many ways.
